SUMMARY:Working Equitation Obstacles Clinic with Chris Stanko
DESCRIPTION:What is Working Equitation? \n\n\n\nWorking Equitation is a dynamic and elegant equestrian discipline that showcases a horse and rider’s versatility\, partnership\, and skill across a variety of tasks inspired by traditional ranch and fieldwork. \n\n\n\nIt originated in Europe—especially Portugal\, Spain\, France\, and Italy—as a way to honor and preserve classical riding traditions used in everyday ranch work. Today\, it’s practiced worldwide and is open to all breeds and riding styles\, including both English and Western. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMeet Chris Stanko\n\n\n\nChris specializes in Working Equitation\, in-hand work\, Classical Horsemanship\, the Art of Garrocha\, and Western Dressage\, with an emphasis on correct biomechanics for both horse and rider. A Level 5 competitor\, Chris has trained the full range of movements required at the highest levels of the sport. \n\n\n\nChris has organized and managed all aspects of Working Equitation shows and clinics\, designed numerous courses\, and regularly teaches throughout Colorado. She believes Working Equitation is one of the best forms of cross-training for any horse\, in any discipline. \n\n\n\nHer training philosophy emphasizes patience\, relaxation\, and a supportive learning environment. Chris encourages riders to slow down\, build a solid foundation\, and prioritize connection and understanding over quick results. “Relaxation is the key to riding Working Equitation with finesse and grace\,” she says. \n\n\n\nAbove all\, Chris is a lifelong student of the horse. She continues to pursue her own education and development\, always seeking new ways to deepen the partnership between horse and rider. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHave Questions?\n\n\n\n\nAndrea Mahaffey(970) 481-0251equestrian@sidneypeak.com \n\n\n\n\nContact\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSidney Peak Ranch Equestrian Center32390 Co Rd 14\, Steamboat Springs\, CO 80487 \n\n\n\n\nMAPS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClinic FAQ\n\n\n\n\nDo I need to be a boarder at Sidney Peak to participate? \n\nNo\, all are welcome to join the clinic even if you are not a boarder. If you are traveling from far\, please reach out to Andrea at equestrian@sidneypeak.com and we can arrange overnight or day-use space for you and your horse. We do require that all horses provide a current coggins and be UTD on vaccinations before they arrive. \n\n\n\n\n\nDo I need to know how to ride working equitation to participate in the clinic? \n\nAbsolutely not! We will have a lot of first time working equitation riders. \n\n\n\n\n\nHow long are the sessions? \n\nEach Group will be approximately 1 and 1/2 hours long.\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat time will I be riding? \n\nWe will send out the clinic schedule the week before the event. Ride times can be requested but we cannot guarantee a specific ride time. \n\n\n\n\n\nHow big are the session groups? \n\nWe will have a maximum of 3 riders per group. Groups will be based on your riding level\, working equitation experience\, and a few other factors. There will be diversity in skill levels within the groups. \n\n\n\n\n\nWhat can I expect to learn? \n\nChris will be focusing on obstacles in this clinic and will help you navigate the various obstacles you’ll find in working equitation. The idea is developing partnership in these movements to make them look effortless and beautiful.
